Epstein-Barr virus: Current questions and challenges
2021, Tumour Virus ResearchCitation Excerpt :Latency III infection also occurs in post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD) and AIDS-associated diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Subsequent analyses of EBV-infected B cells in healthy individuals indicated that all of these latency forms exist in the normal course of EBV infection, although latency III occurs very transiently due to immune pressure [3–5]. In addition, a prevalent form of latency, termed latency 0, was detected in resting memory B cells, in which none of the latency proteins were expressed.
The mTOR inhibitor manassantin B reveals a crucial role of mTORC2 signaling in Epstein-Barr virus reactivation
2020, Journal of Biological ChemistryCitation Excerpt :Like other herpesviruses, the EBV life cycle consists of two phases, latent and lytic. When EBV infects memory B-lymphocytes, it establishes latent infection by default and expresses a few latent genes to maintain latent infection (3, 4). Establishment of latency is a viral strategy to avoid host immune surveillance for lifetime-persistent infection.
Amplicons on chromosome 3 contain oncogenes induced by recurrent exposure to 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate and sodium n-butyrate and Epstein-Barr virus reactivation in a nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell line
2008, Cancer Genetics and CytogeneticsCitation Excerpt :This virus infects both the B cells and epithelial cells that usually result in latent infection [2]. After primary infection, latency can be disrupted by physiological changes [3] or by exposure to certain compounds, such as 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) [4], sodium n-butyrate (SB) [5,6], and calcium ionophores [7]. TPA is the major constituent of purging croton (Croton tiglium L.), a plant native to Southeast Asia; croton oil is used in herbal medicine.
